  1. India’s name is derived from the “Indus” river. Indus Valley Civilisation is the world’s oldest civilisation.
2. Takshila is said to be the first every university in the world; it started around 700 BC.
3. India was one of the richest countries till the time of British rule in the early 17th Century. Christopher Columbus, attracted by India's wealth, had come looking for a sea route to India when he discovered America by mistake.
4. Chess was invented in India.
5. India discovered the number zero, the value of pi, trigonometry, algebra and calculus.
6. Martial Arts was created in India.
7. The Tirupati Balaji temple and the Kashi Vishwanath Temple both, receive more visitors than the Vatican City and Mecca combined.
8. Indian Railways employs more than 1.3 million people. That’s more than the population of many nations.
9. India made its own supercomputer after being denied by other countries. India became third country at that time to make supercomputer (the US and Japan were the other two).
Today, India is designing Petascale supercomputers, next only to USA and Japan.
10. Place named Chirapunji in the state of Meghalaya is the wettest inhabited place of earth.
11. India has one of the largest postal networks on the globe and what’s more, there’s a floating post office too!
12. India’s First rocket was brought and transported on a bicycle. In present India is leading in space research and development. India was first nation to successfully send Mangalyaan to obrit Mars in first attempt and in cheapest cost.
13. India controls the highest battlefield in the world, the Siachen glacier, at 5000 metres above Mean Sea Level (MSL).
14. Operation Rahat (2013) was one of the biggest civilian rescue operations ever carried out in the world.
15. The Indian army has a horsed cavalry regiment. It is among one of the last 3 such regiments in the world.
